A bottle of beer and 8 coffees, please
February 11, 2011
February 9, 2011, rush hour, we were seated at a round table at the 2nd floor of Luisa's - some members of Open Space, Atty. Bubut Olarte, Ceasar Salcedo of Powerpuff Corn, Dan of Tumbleweeds, tenor John Glen Gaerlan and myself. There's free wi-fi at Luisa's, so I stayed logged on to Facebook for any updates from the other artists. Sure enough, Kay Balajadia-Liggayu sent a message saying that though she won't make it to the first pre-production meeting, she's in. A text message comes in from folk singer, Jun Utlieg - he's in Bontoc at the moment, but yes, he's in too.
A bottle of beer and eight coffees please... and the meeting started. I began by giving a narrative of how the whole thing came to be, then introduced everybody to the concept. Everyone at the table embraced the whole idea - finally putting local artists on center stage, while advocating the preservation and protection of Baguio's remaining open spaces. With the commitment of the artists present, and of those who couldn't make it to that meeting but sent word that they're with us... there's no stopping this now. Not the limited budget. Not the limited time. Not even the rain check from some artists due to prior commitments.

Afterall, as we say in Open Space, "all creative possibilities."
